G’day Amanda
Yes – as far as I could see it’s a public path all the way down. It’s steep at the bottom.
It brings you out on W James Road here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/D1bxKiBmK5GhfCBq7
There’s a road sign at the bottom pointing back the way you came which says to me it’s public access.
From there it’s not far to some nice swimming holes at the top of the Caboolture River.
It’s a great part of the world.
Neil

I live in Ocean view and because of your article recently stumbled upon this track with my horses!

I know it has been years since you posted this, where on thornhill chase does this pop up at the bottom?

Is it council owned the whole way down?

Thanks!

G’day Matt

I tried getting the land owners name using the instructions in my comment below from 18 June 2024, but I failed because the title plan is an old “W” title which I think is from after the war.

I don’t have any landowner details but it’s worth noting:
1. Left Hand Branch Road at Kerry is a road reserve, so you have legal right of access until the end of the road, which I think terminates at the national park boundary.
2. If you want to be doubly sure, there is a farmstay at the start of the road, with a mobile phone number on their website. You might try contacting them. See https://www.stayatkirro.com.au/contact.html

I’m not sure if you are still active on this blog but if you are I would love your help!

Yesterday, (5/10/2025) whilst attempting the descent off Castle Crag, I very foolishly lost my hiking pack down the cliffs into the valley of Moran Creek. In an attempt to retrieve the pack, tomorrow we are planning on hiking up the river from the end of Left Hand Branch Road. I came across your blog in an attempt to find out the nature of the access to this section of creek.

If it is at all possible, I would love to get in contact with the owners of the property to seek approval to access the creek. If these are contact details you might still have, I would be extremely grateful to get these off you so I can appropriately contact them.

Obviously you cannot post them online on a public website but if it’s possible to contact you privately for these details please let me know!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Kind regards,

Matt
