Hi Neil,

Yes, you’re spot on. It is a ‘Bell’s’ form of a Lace Monitor. I had no idea that this form occurs that close to Brisbane. They are reasonably common further inland, and I have seen them in the eastern drainages at Grafton, as well as from Tin Can Bay to the wider Bundaberg area.
Your find is very interesting.

Following the Eastern Branch leads you up towards the 4WD park near Jimna. Following the Western Branch you can go to Nanango or further north to Kilkivan and Murgon. So many possibilities and so little time.
