We will ride clockwise: North up Western Branch Road, East into the state forest, South down Eastern Branch Road
I have ridden this route several times in both wet and dry weather. It is one of the few routes that actually improves after rain. There is nothing more pleasant that to spend a day riding through crystal clear river crossings.
Notes:
Social pace. We won’t leave anyone behind.
There are no refill points. You must carry enough water for 4 hours. In dry weather the river water is not pleasant to drink.
There is one steep climb.
There is one steep descent.
There are one or two places you might get your feet wet.
Bring:
Bike in good condition
Plenty of water (3 to 4 litres) and snacks
Tools / Repair kit
Sunscreen
Sense of humour.
Whether you’re a novice or a ninja, this is an iconic ride. There are few people who can say they’ve seen where the Brissie River starts. This is a beautiful part of the world, well worth visiting.
If you feel like having a fun day out with a large bunch of fun loving mountain bikers, this is the ride for you.

Hi Neil,
I Have been following your blog with great interest for some time, many of your rides have been over routes I have also explored or have been planning to explore. I would particularly like to participate in this ride as I have recently driven through this area. Due to a work related injury I have not been riding much for several months and my fitness has suffered, however I should be able to manage this ride albeit at a fairly leisurely pace.
Regards,
Peter Farrell.
Good on ya, Peter. It’ll be good to meet you. We will have a “sag wagon” / support vehicle, so if you need to bail out you’ll be able to. But to be honest, it’s an easy ride. There’s only one tough hill and you can walk it if you need to.
I would so love to do this ride! Unfortunately my friend has decided to get married on that day. Very selfish of him. Look forward to the social ride report.
Too bad Darragh. You could tell your mate to get married in Linville in the afternoon. Then he can join us, and you can get back in time for the wedding 🙂
Thanks, to your usual high standards [even the weather!!] of of MTB social ride Neil et al. Ta muchly.
Thanks Ian. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
