There are miles of tracks around the lake – it’s a wonderful place to explore. I’ve sometimes met SEQ water people while I’ve been out there, and it has never been a problem. I have no agreement with them, but I have noticed their attitude to land access has become more relaxed over the last few years – in fact they recently announced some new recreational trails to the west of the dam for horse riders and cyclists. Hopefully this sort of thing will continue.
Yes, I’d love to see images of the newspaper clippings you mention. I understand the land acquisitions were unkind to the local residents. It must have been heartbreaking to be forced to leave such a lovely area.

I’ve had a fascination with lake samsonvale for years and the old roads bridges and properties lost, I’ve always wanted to explore the restricted areas but have been chicken about being caught, how do you do it and publish your explorations as well. Do you have some agreement with SEQ water? I’ve joined the Lake samsonvale water sports association last year so i’ve been able to access some area’s by kayak. If your interested I’ve obtained some old newspaper clippings of the 70’s from Joan Winn telling the fate of people losing there properties to the New Dam.
