The caption of the photo says:
This remarkable photograph documents the beginnings of the North Pine township. Just past the North Pine Courthouse on the left is the small shop used by the saddler, James Connors. On the high ground next to the North Pine Hotel is the building which originally housed Tom Petrie’s hostelry and accommodation house. The shop and residence to the right, which had been Archibald Hamilton’s general store from 1882 until 1889, was then occupied by Thomas Henry Ware and his family. Ware was a dairy utensil manufacturer and importer. Further to the right can be seen part of the horse yards, dip and sale yards which were established by Tom Petrie.
