Cunningham’s Campsite
In 1828, the explorer Allan Cunningham travelled south-west from Moreton Bay in an attempt to find a route through the Great Dividing Range to the Darling Downs. Today we thought we’d visit one of his campsites, at the foot of the range, where he camped the day before he passed through what we now call “Cunningham’s Gap”.

Lantana
This was an enjoyable day of exploration which turned into an overnight nightmare because of Lantana.
Our plan for today’s ride was to start at the head-waters of the Western Branch of the Brisbane River, follow the Bicentennial National Trail (BNT) northwards to Elgin Vale, then return back to our starting point via Gallangowan and Yabba State Forests.

Nukinenda
Today’s adventure took us in a big arc from Blackbutt in the South Burnett region to Toogoolawah in the Brisbane Valley.
We rode along the Bicentennial National Trail, down the Great Dividing Range and through the endless rolling plains of farmland carved by Emu and Ivory Creeks.
I’ve driven much of this route before. Last year, while recovering from injury, I drove the support vehicle while Eric and Darb rode. But today I felt lucky to be able to ride my bike with friends through this scenic part of the world.
