Lightning in the gum trees

We were lucky enough to have another electrical storm over Lawnton this evening.

Actually, even though our place is hidden among all the gum trees, I was still able to steal a few shots.

Harrison and I sat out on the deck calling god names to see if it would make better lightning.

Harrison was quite sagacious for a nine year old when he said that he didn’t think it made any difference.

I think my attitude would be different, however, if I was in a small ship in an electrical storm at sea!

Regardless – it’s beautiful to watch, and elusive to catch. And like most awesome things, the image never does the real thing justice.

So much to see. So little time….

This magnificent lizard has been living at our place for the last few years.

I caught him limping around the other day. It appears he’d been in a fight with either a cat or another lizard, and wasn’t walking very well.

So I called the RSPCA who came out, captured him and took him to their animal hospital.

They tell me when he’s better they’ll bring him back home here, where everything is familiar to him.

More Shorncliffe Pics

I didn’t think yesterday’s post did Shorncliffe justice, so I’ve added a few more pics.

It’s a great place to chill out – especially in the late afternoon.

There’s an amazing new playground for the kids, plenty of BBQ’s, lots of shade, a wide beach, and that incredible pier you can walk along for what seems like miles!

But it’s the evening colours in the sky that I like best.

We had a quick picnic down at the beach at Redcliffe late this afternoon.

It didn’t all go to plan – some kid’s football ended up in the middle of of our food, and splattered it everywhere. Plus we couldn’t find the geocache we were looking for.

But it was a lot of fun – really relaxing to get out of the house.

And the light was wonderful too – that lovely blue-hue that you get after sunset, which usually makes for good looking photos.

But the most fun was just watching the kids play, and not having to worry about everything.

Redcliffe Sunset

I never thought you’d be able to see the sun set over the water in South-East Queensland, considering the fact that it’s on the east coast of Australia.
I took this photo of the sunset from Scarborough on the northern tip of the Redcliffe Peninsula across the road from the Marina, looking north-west over Deception Bay.
It’s much more picturesque when you see it with your own eyes – the Glasshouse Mountains off to the north (not visible in this photo) look spectacular.
I can’t think if many other places in the area where you can see sunsets over the water like this from the mainland.
Well worth the effort!
