North Stradbroke Island, or “Minjerribah” as it is called in the local Jandai language, is a huge sand island in Moreton Bay east of Brisbane. Today we explored it on our fat bikes.
Fraser Island is beautifully stunning.
We recently spent a few days there, exploring the northern half of the island.
My friend Eric often says that when it has been raining for a while, with more to come, the best place to ride is the beach.
His advice paid off today.
My friend Andrew asked me to show him some good off-road ways between Brisbane’s north-side and the Sunshine Coast. What a great excuse for a ride!
Each time I visit Straddie I think to myself “Why have I waited so long to come back to this amazing place?”
After visiting for a quick overnighter last weekend, I indulgently decided go back a couple of days later. Two ferry trips to North Stradbroke Island in less than a week is a new record for me.
The weather report forecast rain, but we still wanted to ride, so we took our fat bikes to Bribie Island.
Winter, with its clear skies and cool days, is the perfect time to visit Moreton Island. And best of all – by visiting mid-week, we had the place to ourselves.
After five days of riding through the bush we had reached the coast. It was time fo us to ride south along the sand for a few hundred kilometres.
